The career startups of Modesto Carvalhosa and Nelson Eizirik are alike. They both shifted from academic enhancement into attorneyship in the late eighties, when they opened their law offices.
Modesto Carvalhosa was at first a teacher at the University of São Paulo – USP and worked as legal advisor for the São Paulo Stock Exchange – BOVESPA.
For years Nelson Eizirik held office as head officer for the Studies & Research Division at the ‘Instituto Brasileiro de Mercado de Capitais – IBMEC’ (the Brazilian Institute for the Securities Market). Later, from 1986 until 1988, he acted as Commissioner for the ‘Comissão de Valores Mobiliários’ – CVM (the Securities & Exchange Commission).
In 1987 Modesto Carvalhosa, together with Pedro Batazza and Maria Lucia de Araujo Cintra, established in São Paulo the firm Modesto Carvalhosa Advogados.
Meanwhile, in Rio de Janeiro, Nelson Eizirik formed his law office, Eizirik e Associados, together with Ariadna Bohomoletz Gaal, who in her turn had been working as a researcher for the IBMEC (the Brazilian Institute for the Securities Market) and who had also worked as an attorney for the Rio de Janeiro stock market. In a short time Norma Parente, who was then an attorney for the State of Rio de Janeiro, joined the staff. Norma worked with the firm until the year 2000, when she was then appointed Commissioner for the ‘Comissão de Valores Mobiliários – CVM’ (the Securities & Exchange Commission).
The solid academic and professional reputation of Modesto Carvalhosa and Nelson Eizirik allied with the vast experience of Luis Octavio da Motta Veiga in running not only public entities, where he held office as head commissioner (Comissão de Valores Mobiliários – CVM and Petrobras), but also private companies, as president (Anglo Americana do Brasil, among others) resulted, in 1994, in the firm Carvalhosa, Eizirik e Motta Veiga Advogados.
A few years later Luis Octavio da Motta Veiga left the firm and became it´s consultant.
Throughout the years Carvalhosa e Eizirik Advogados has recruited and trained young professionals who currently honor the firm’s as well as its founders’ history: Renata Brandão Moritz Serpa Coelho, Marcus de Freitas Henriques, Flávia Parente, and, more recently, Luiz André N. de Moura Azevedo, Juliana Botini Hargreaves Vieira, Ana Carolina Weber, Andrea Braga, Adriana M.
